Compassionate Communications

Based on

The Five Basic Human Needs

Belonging, Power, Freedom, Joy, Security

Disagreements, creative conflict becomes hurtful conflict when even one of the five basic human needs has been invalidated in yourself or in another person. By honoring these needs for belonging, power/respect, freedom/choice, joy, and security/safety, the community becomes one of appreciation and trust.

Joy

(intention) You are celebrated and appreciated. I am happy to be me.

Playful, creative, feeling glad

Security

(intention) Your safety boundaries are acknowledged and respected. I trust you to respect my needs as I respect your needs.
